Diet and calorie counting? Yes, but with a glass of wine!

Knowing the wine calories makes your diet and life easier. Here’s how.

After the holidays, a little attention to the figure is a great classic for everyone. Just as it is a spontaneous classic for everyone to give up, among the first things, even wine.

But is it really true that it makes you fat? And if so, how much does a glass of wine affect?

Alcohol

In fact, what adds calories to wine is alcohol. One gram of alcohol corresponds to 7 calories, a lot if we think of a large amount of wine consumed.

But if on the other hand we have only one glass of wine a day, we will not give up our daily ritual – and the consequent dose of good humour – but at the same time we will not compromise our diet.

In fact, the quantity of alcohol will depend on the alcohol content of the wine and the capacity of the wine glass.

Let’s calculate the calories!

For example take one of our best known wines, the Lambrusco Terre Verdiane, which has 11% of alcohol, and an average glass (ranging from 100 ml of a wine glass to the 150 which we would pour at home) of 120 ml (122.4 grams) we will have therefore 94 calories of alcohol.

The sugar not developed in wine is negligible in this calorie count: if you really want to be accurate, you could round it up slightly.

The calculation gives reassuring results: no more caloric than an extra bite, a glass of wine can therefore be a legitimate complement to a balanced diet – where moderation is important.

The beneficial properties

Not only that: it is a widespread opinion among doctors, nutritionists and dieticians to add it precisely for its beneficial qualities in terms of vitamins, mineral salts and, in the case of red wine, polyphenols.

Among them resveratrol stands out, recently it made headlines for its antioxidant and anticancer properties.

Although the amount of resveratrol in a glass of wine is not high, we can without doubt support its positive contribution in the context of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

A sip of good humour

And the surprises aren’t over yet. The antioxidants naturally present in wine perform a preventive action on anxiety and depression, improving our mood.

It does not make us feel good just because we are pampering ourselves or a moment of sharing therefore, but precisely because of its natural composition.

Let’s drink without fear: as in everything, the key is in balance. Keeping the balance will allow us to take care of ourselves without sacrifice or repentance. And to face the diet with a smile!
